Episode 4: Motherisk Scandal at Sick Kids Hospital and How the Government Failed the Victims
Dr. Gideon Koren ran a forensic laboratory at Sick Kids Hospital from the 1990s. From 2005 to 2015 he used hair-strand drug and alcohol testing on thousands of people. The only problem was that Dr. Koren was not qualified to run a forensic laboratory and the tests he used - and child welfare agencies across Canada paid for and relied on in their proceedings - were unreliable and inadequate. Thousands of families got separated. What is the aftermath and legacy of Motherisk? Is Sick Kids hospital responsible? Do they continue to misdiagnose people and separate families to this day?
